Way Back Wednesday: Zihuatanejo

In honor of Cinco de Mayo, today's way back Wednesday takes us back to 2005. Colin’s parents took us to Zihuatanejo, Mexico in 2005. It was one of the most amazing vacations that I have ever been on! We stayed in a beautiful hotel called Villas Miramar. It was right on the ocean and every day, the hotel staff arranged freshly cut hibiscus flowers in our room after they cleaned. It was just lovely. I was the thinnest I have been since ninth grade.
Remember that part of Shawshank Redemption, where they are talking about getting out of prison?

"ANDY: Think you'll ever get out of here?
RED: Sure. When I got a long white beard and about three marbles left rolling around upstairs.
ANDY: Tell you where I'd go. Zihuatanejo.
RED: Zihuatanejo?
ANDY: Mexico. Little place right on the Pacific. You know what the Mexicans say about the Pacific? They say it has no memory. That's where I'd like to finish out my life, Red. A warm place with no memory. Open a little hotel right on the beach. Buy some worthless old boat and fix it up like new. Take my guests out charter fishing. "

That's where we went.
Colin’s mom really loves to fish and to eat fish, so we found a local who would take us out on a chartered trip. His name was Moro, and he told us to meet in the morning to head out. After we had booked that boat trip, every other guy-with-a-boat kept trying to convince us to go with him instead. They said things like “Moro don’t got no boat” and “Moro don’t know how to drive a boat” and “I take you, we catch lots of big fish”. We stuck with Moro and met him first thing the next morning. Apparently, when you are deep sea fishing, one of the best techniques is to circle constantly in the good fishing spots until you catch something. Oh, the water was so choppy. And we were literally going in circles. Long story short, I had my first (and only) experience with sea sickness. I was throwing up over the side of the boat, and Moro kept saying “we go back after I get one more fish!”. It was pretty pitiful. Moro did cook those big old fish up for us, and it was delicious once I’d gotten my land legs back.

In case I haven't mentioned it before, I love Colin's parents very much (and not just because they take me on sweet vacations! I know, I know, I'm spoiled!)
