Physical Therapy

A lot of people have wondered about the pictures I have shared of Suzy at physical therapy. Well, Suzy started therapy this August for a gross motor delay. She had a very thorough evaluation, and she tested at or above on all of the criteria except gross motor development. She has low muscle tone and hyper-mobile joints, which combined are making it harder for her to learn to crawl, pull up, and walk. She was barely crawling by her first birthday, could not pull up to standing at a table, and could not sit herself up from lying down.

She tends to lock her knees when she is standing to try to feel stable, which means she needs to practice walking and bending her knees. She also is learning to sit down from a standing position by bending her knees instead of just crashing to her bottom with locked knees.

We have had six therapy sessions so far, and she is loving it! She has already made great strides. She now pulls to standing, will push a toy and walk behind it, and crawls more efficiently with less scooting on her bottom. She has gained so much confidence! It is so awesome to watch her try new things and to see her learning!
