River Market History Lesson

While researching the history of East Markham Street/President Clinton Avenue, I came across some photos of the area from around 1990. My how things change! The shot below is standing on President Clinton Avenue looking west (note the Stephens building in the distance). The building on the right was converted to the River Market building. The building on the left was converted to the Arkansas Studies Institute.

The Riverfront Ampitheater was one of the first big things to try to attract visitors to this area. The building in the foreground of this shot on the right is now used for Boscos, Sonny Williams and the Underground Pub.
This is a picture of what is now known as the Cox Creative Center. The building on the left side of the shot is now Sticky Fingerz, and a Police kiosk and parking lot are now in the foreground of this picture.This is what the main library (used to be known as the Fones Building) looked like during renovation.
